The last time I visited Ecuador was about 3-4 years ago(alone). My grandma said that it was 10 years ago, but who knows.. she might be right. This time it was the whole family that went, except for my younger brother (that's a whole other story). This time it was CELEBRATION !!! my grandma was turning 86 yrs old.
We had two days of back to back rumba (party), the first day, was just my grandma and her children, grand children and great grandchildren. The second, was with my grandma and her sister and all of the families. Now that was something memorable, they haven't met up like this in decades.
Now, lets see where I went and what I did. My first stop was Las Peñas. "With more than 400 years old, Las Peñas was the first neighborhood of Guayaquil, which took its name from the cliffs and limestone rocks that formed the Hill back then when the Spanish settled in the XV century. In 1982 the neighborhood was declared Cultural Heritage of Ecuador and between 2002 and 2008, the place was restored and regenerated by the Municipality of Guayaquil."(From GuayaquildemiDestino.com). Las Peñas is a hill with a lot of local food along the steps to the top which has a chapel and a light house. The view from the top is totally breathtaking.
I also visited Santay Island known as one of the first pobladores de Santay. The only way to get to this island is by walking/biking across a 3mile bridge, or by a motorboat that the villagers use. I got to see some amazing scenery and im sorry these two picture don't cover it.(I had great footage that I deleted by mistake.) I saw some crocodile, some weird looking bird and I was actually trying to find some tigers that lived around the area but had no luck tracking them down.
Other place you want to check out are some of the beaches in Ecuador like Salinas, Playas, Liberta, Manabi, Montañita and the Galapagos to name a few. Now Salinas and Montañita and Galapagos are the main places tourist go when they visit Ecuador. Montañita can be consider the spanish version of Ibiza. A party island full of tourist and local partying, drinking and having the best time of their life.
Now, for people that already have visited Ecuador and are used to the culture will add on to this list.
Cotopaxi - a snow covered mountain located a day a way from the city Quito.
Baños - white water rafting, mountain climbing, hiking and hang gliding.
EL clumpio a findel mundo or la casa a fin dl mundo - is a tree house that has a swing attach to it and you can swing from it and see down the hill side.
The Equator- is also another great treat to experience. I can keep going but in that case i should just write another blog =].
